Festivals are what the Valencia Region is all about. Whether it's chucking squishy tomatoes in a crowd of 30,000,
watching hundreds parade in Moors/Christians regalia
or plain old Bull Runs, this is the place to be.
Below are some highlights of what's on offer,
but rest assured, there a hundreds more........
La Tomatina
There are many tales and legends as to how and when this festival began,
but it's enough to say that La Tomatina is world renowned, and has featured
on many holiday programs as one of "The Festivals" to visit.
Staged in the town of Bunol every last wednesday in August
it basically involves30+ thousand revelers shoe-horning into
the tiny main street to await the horns which spell the coming of the tomato trucks. ....
For 1 hour the street is full, at some points, to knee deep in tomatoes
which are hurled left, right and centre. Goggles are recommended. And sturdy shoes!!
Afterwards, just hose yourself down, and go enjoy the local party!
Bunol is only 8km from Casa Mora and is found just down the A3 Autopista. (* Always ensure you double check the Festival date for La Tomatina as it has been known to change!!)

Las Fallas
Las Fallas is a tradition in the Valencia Region that really is something special.
From the beginning of March, through to the 19th,
city wide parties and festivals are held to celebrate.
On the 1st of March and onwards through to the 19th, at 2pm everyday,
The Mascleta are set off at the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) in the centre of Valencia.
A huge firework and banger display, the sound is amazing, with the different
suppliers producing different sounds and rhythms every day.
The Fallas itself culminates in the final 3 days with the finalised erection of the
Fallas statues throughout the city (and surrounding towns), parades and the Night of Foc,
where the statues are burned to signal the end of the festival.
The Fallas statues really have to be seen to be appreciated- their size is amazing, some standing as tall as 3 storey buildings, and they really are works of art!!
The Fallas Queens Parade must be seen too,
a procession of all the Fallas queens through Valencia in their Fallas regalia.
And they pose for photos!!
Check out the link for a more in depth look at Las Fallas.

Bull Runs
Whether you like or dislike, agree or disagree, Bull Runs and Bull Fights are
still very much a tradition of Valencian Life.
Throughout the year you'll find Bull Fights advertised in and around Valencia,
most notably at the famous Plaza de Toros, right in the centre of Valencia.
(13th & 14th May Bull Fight Festival)
If you would prefer a more sedate and friendly Bull experience, look out for
one of the many local town festivals which always include a Bull Run, where
the bulls are set off through the local town, with the manly and macho showing
how close they can get to a charging bull.
This may not be the Pamplona Bull Run, but be warned: it CAN be dangerous.
The local town of Lliria has 3 runs in September, along with other festivities.

Cheste Moto GP
Ok, not actually a recognised Festival, but bear with us.
The weekend of the Valencia Moto GP is more than just a race, much more.
Get yourself over to Cheste on the friday and more importantly, the saturday night
for an incredible buzz of motorcycle induced partying.
This gig lasts all night, and there must be 30,000+ people,
bike racing in the streets, music, drink.......
(bring your earplugs- this is louder than the race!!)

Other Festivals
Phew, want more??
There are just far too many festivals to list on this site!
As mentioned previously, every town and village outside Valencia has it's own
Saints day, which invariably means Fiesta time.
In Lliria, for example, they have a meringue fight in August
(followed by a foam fight & water fight).
There's Moors vs. Christians Parades throughout the Region at different times of the year.
There's a Fiesta which has become known as the Plastic Bucket Festival,
where the Parade Floats throw buckets, sweets, spatulas et al at the unsuspecting crowd!
There's Paella
Fiestas where whole towns compete to be awarded the 1st prize.
The list is endless.......
